In GRA 360: Designing a Brand Identity, this course had students select a mock brand with the purpose of creating its branding. Beatsfest is a mock cloud-operated audio media streaming service targeted to young Generation Y and Generation Z with the purpose of offering affordable ‘fresh, hip’ music. The requested logo variations were a wordmark and a letter mark or pictorial mark. Over sixty sketches were drawn before moving six designs to Adobe Illustrator for refinement. These designs were developed in black and white to ensure the silhouettes were strong enough before adding color. The selected logo variation features a simplified visual of the sound waves when one says ‘Beatsfest’ with a deep violet and ‘Generation Z’ yellow.
