During my pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, I participated in a series of classes focused on Drawing and Oil Painting. These classes provided the opportunity to develop and explore various traditional mediums to interpret the observational world with one’s imagination.
The carousel features three charcoal drawings. The first piece, Reduction Observational Charcoal Drawing, on the left uses a reduction technique, erasing to reveal the highlights and contrast. The second piece, Observational Hallway, relies on perspective and contrast to distinguish the textures in the composition. The third piece, ‘Blissful and Anxiety Self-Portrait’, was based on randomly selected adjectives to convey oneself.
The Silent Film Ink Study translated a still from the black and white silent film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). The intention was to utilize the medium’s fluidity to build value. The Greyscale Observational Painting relies on texture, values, and form to recreate the display.
